SUMMARY:Webinar: Teaching Music in an Age of Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:Teaching Music in the Age of Covid \nThe stress felt by the world from bushfires\, pestilence and economic recession touches us all with uncertainty and anxiety. We each express this in our own way\, with some people becoming withdrawn and worried while others are irritable\, argumentative\, and uncooperative. Children are also affected and the more distressed the adults around them are\, the more reactive they will be. \nAs a key person in a child’s life a teacher is in an unique position to either exacerbate the anxiety the child is feeling or provide a productive space of relative calm and safety. This presentation by clinical psychologist and family therapist Catherine Sanders and MTSA committee member and violin/viola teacher Wendy Heiligenberg will provide a conceptual framework to support teachers to work with their students while taking care of themselves. It will discuss practical strategies and provide opportunity for questions.

SUMMARY:An Introduction to - Online Delivery for Music Lessons.
DESCRIPTION:  \nLet’s take it online! \nIn a world where global connectivity is something\, we do every day\, continuing to deliver your instrumental music lessons should NOT STOP. \nRemote lessons are something that Pete has been conducting for many years for his rural and international students \nNow that many of our students are unable to attend school or studio lesson times. The time is now for you to embrace some simple technology to continue to conduct your work and to support your student’s music aspirations and their families.   \nThis method is easy for both student/parent and educator with no heavy additional cost to the lesson\, all you need is an internet connection.  \nPete is definitely across all things digital as he is at the helm of a software company that will soon launch some software that will navigate music educators through these frantic times. \nDuring the webinar\, Pete will share tips and tricks on having a quality music lesson in the online world.   Live video lessons are different but not unusual.  \nSee you in the webinar this Thursday at 7:00pm Acst.  \n

SUMMARY:Summer Conference 2020
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Instrument: Musicianship in private lessons \nHow can we possibly cram in extras like aural\, theory and improvising into a single instrumental lesson? SUMMARY:Professional Development Day\, AGM and Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Member $50\, Non-Member $65\, Student $35 \nPractising and Performing: teaching for successful outcomes – a woodwind perspective \nWe all have pupils who practise poorly.  We all have pupils who perform poorly.  Does practice really make perfect?  What are the recipes for better connections between these two fundamental activities that lead to good outcomes for our pupils? \nOur invited speakers are all highly regarded woodwind specialists.  But what if I’m a violin teacher or a piano teacher?  New approaches can be refreshing and the wealth of experience these experts bring will easily transfer to most instrumental areas. \nA certificate for 3 hours of PD will be provided.

SUMMARY:Virginia Black Piano Lecture-Demonstration and Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Virginia Black PD application Form HERE \nBaroque music\, written for the harpsichord and played on the piano.\n \n\nVirginia will draw upon her long and varied experience as a vituoso harpsichord performer\, describing how this has influenced and shaped her playing of Bach and other Baroque composers on the modern grand piano. She will play a number of extracts from Baroque works to illustrate her remarks. \n2pm Lecture-Demonstration: “Playing Baroque music on the piano”. \n2.45 – Break \n3pm – 4.15pm Master Class \n\n  \nVirginia started playing the piano aged 7. She was lucky enough to be given her first grand piano at age 12 – a Bechstein – which she still has and plays with pleasure. Aged 17\, she played Beethoven’s 3rd piano concerto with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in Birmingham Town Hall. \nHaving won numerous piano competitions\, she then won the F E Beckett piano scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. \nAt the Royal Academy she studied piano under Gordon Green and harpsichord under Geraint Jones. Virginia studied piano for 4 years as principal study\, winning both the Lillian Davies Beethoven Prize and the Dove Prize; she also gained the inter-college Raymond Russell prize for harpsichord performance and was awarded DipRAM for her final recital. \nVirginia made her debut as a solo recitalist\, aged 20\, at the Wigmore Hall\, London and has given numerous performances on the South Bank in the Royal Festival Hall\, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room. \n\n\n\n\n\n“With great assurance she impressed on the Scarlatti sonatas her unmistakable musical personality…authoritative\, elegant and with obvious enjoyment of the virtuoso passages…to the delight of the audience.” \n\nWESTDEUTSCHE ALLGEMEINE ZEITUNG\nHERNE EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL\n\n\n\n\n\nShe has played at many international festivals\, including the Göttingen and Carmel Bach festivals\, and the Herne and York early music festivals. She has pursued a worldwide concert schedule including the Paris Festival D’Été\, the Prague Spring Festival and a series of recitals in the United States. \nVirginia has continued to nurture many talented musicians at the Royal Academy as professor of harpsichord\, chair of postgraduate diploma studies and senior postgraduate tutor. She has also given numerous external master classes and performance classes including Oxford University\, Eton College and the Ivy League Universities. \nIn addition to live performances\, she has made many recordings for both radio and television around the world and in England has been featured as ‘Artist of the Week’ on BBC Radio 3. Her library of CD recordings has been recognised through Editor’s Choice in The Gramophone and Critic’s Choice in Classic CD. \n\n\n\nVirginia is rediscovering her roots as a pianist\, with recent recitals in England and Europe of baroque and classical masterworks. In September 2012\, at the David Josefowitz Recital Hall\, London\, she gave the World Premiere performance of ‘The calm\, the storm’ a piano piece specially written for her by Oliver Davis. \nIn December 2013 she released a double CD of the six Bach Partitas (BWV 825–830) played on the piano and is currently recording a series of Scarlatti Sonatas.
