Adelaide Fringe: BOOZE AND THE BARD: A COMEDY OF ERRORS

Actor Nick Mercer premieres his sharp new one-man show, “Hamlet at the Bottle-O, or The Wineshop Monologues”, at the Goodwood Institute Theatre as part of the 2018 Adelaide Fringe. Running for nine shows only, from Wednesday, 21st February to Saturday, 3rd March, Mercer says of his show, “I tell it how it really is for me – an actor who has to work in a bottle-shop to pay his bills, whilst auditioning for plays, ads, films, musicals, anything.”

With a background of training in both the United Kingdom and Australia, Nick Mercer has been working as a professional actor for the past ten years. He is currently based in Sydney, and was most recently seen in “Power Games” (TV mini-series), and in an annoying insurance ad that he hopes you can’t recall.

“Hamlet at the Bottle-O, or The Wineshop Monologues” is based on a concept originated by Nick Mercer and well-known Adelaide actor/director Adrian Barnes. The script was written by Pat. H. Wilson, and the show has been directed by Adrian Barnes. “This is a comedy tour-de-force for Nick”, says Barnes. “He gets to show his range as an actor, from observational humour to satire to slapstick, and the language gets as fruity as a moselle – hence the 18+ rating.”

Nick Mercer adds, “Both wine buffs and theatre fanatics will love this. Just dropping a few names –  Alan Seymour, Tom Lehrer, Arthur Miller, William Shakespeare.”
