Teaching Music in the Age of Covid
The stress felt by the world from bushfires, pestilence and economic recession touches us all with uncertainty and anxiety. We each express this in our own way, with some people becoming withdrawn and worried while others are irritable, argumentative, and uncooperative. Children are also affected and the more distressed the adults around them are, the more reactive they will be.
As a key person in a child’s life a teacher is in an unique position to either exacerbate the anxiety the child is feeling or provide a productive space of relative calm and safety. This presentation by clinical psychologist and family therapist Catherine Sanders and MTSA committee member and violin/viola teacher Wendy Heiligenberg will provide a conceptual framework to support teachers to work with their students while taking care of themselves. It will discuss practical strategies and provide opportunity for questions.
