2023 MTASA Competitions Day: Miriam Hyde Awards (Open & Junior)Open to students of MTASA members.
Conditions of Entry
1. The competition is open to
• The Miriam Hyde Open Award
• The Miriam Hyde Junior Award

Students of MTASA members. The member must be the competitor’s principal teacher for the instrument on which the competitor is performing.

Age limit: students 15 years and under on the closing day of entry
2. The value of the Award/Scholarships are:-
The Miriam Hyde Open Award $500 (1st) $200 (2nd)
The Miriam Hyde Junior Award $300 (1st) $100 (2nd)
3. a) Late entry fee of $20 will be applied, and no more than a week after the closing date.
b) The Council reserves the right to receive or not receive entries after the closing date.
4. Competitors must submit the titles and timings of works at the time of entry. Any alterations to the proposed programme must be made no later than 10 days prior to the event.
5. Works to be performed
• The Miriam Hyde Open Award
o Works by three composers are to be performed, one of which is to be by Miriam Hyde**.
a) Baroque / Classical
b) Romantic /Modern
c) Miriam Hyde**
*Singers may sing up to three songs by the same composer for each category.
**Where no appropriate Miriam Hyde works are available for instruments such as cello, double bass, bassoon, brass and voice etc., students may perform a work by another Australian composer.
o At least one work is to be played from memory.
o Time Limit (Playing time): Max 20 minutes
o The performance standards of works must be of at least Grade 7 AMEB or equivalent.
• The Miriam Hyde Junior Award
o Works by three composers are to be performed, one of which is to be by Miriam Hyde**.
a) Baroque / Classical
b) Romantic /Modern
c) Miriam Hyde**
* Singers may sing up to three songs by the same composer for each category.
**Where no appropriate Miriam Hyde works are available for instruments such as cello, double bass, bassoon, brass and voice etc., students may perform a work by another Australian composer.
o At least one work is to be played from memory.
o The performance standards of works must be of at least Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent. There is no upper limit.
o Time Limit (Playing time): Min 8 minutes, max 15 minutes
6. No coaching is permitted during performance.
7. No still or video photographing or audio recording permitted during performance for copyright reasons.
8. Copyright laws shall be observed by each entrant including completing and providing,
a) Entry Form;
b) APRA AMCOS Form No 1; and
c) An additional original copy of the music, OR a photocopy of the music together with a completed APRA AMCOS Form No 2, for the adjudicator.
9. a) Late entry is available no more than one week after the closing date. A late entry fee of $20 will be applied.
b) The Council reserves the right to accept or not to accept entries after the closing date.
10. Competitors or their representative are required to check in and bring copies of their music (See section 8c) at least 10 mins before the session start time.
11. The scholarship will not be awarded if an acceptable standard is not attained.
12. The competition will not be held unless four or more entries are received.
13. Competitors must be present for the adjudicator’s final summary and announcement of winners.
14. The decision of the adjudicator is final. The Music Teachers’ Association of SA Inc. accepts no responsibility for the decision.
