Preparing Your Students for Success – The Difference between Examination and Competition
Music is versatile and abstract. This suggests that good playing involves more than just talent and tenacity. Even when music students put in a lot of hard work and have good talents, judges may not be impressed. Although we are all aware that competitions and exams have different requirements, students are often guided on technicalities rather than their psychological preparedness to ace these two significant events. In this workshop, Dr. Poom will go through the important points to be aware of when practising the piano for an exam or to win a competition.
Dr Poom Prommachart, received his Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music in London on a full scholarship sponsored by the late Princess of Thailand. He went on to obtain the most prestigious Tagore Gold Medal which was handed to him by His Majesty King Charles III, King of the United Kingdom.
In 2022, Dr Poom was awarded the ‘Rector’s List of Honour for the Most Exceptional Graduates’ from the University of Montreal’s Doctor of Music programme. He is currently a Steinway Artist, an Assistant Professor at the University College Fairview and the Brand Ambassador of Kaimirra Tutan, a rare gemstones jewellery brand.
Dr Poom is currently residing in Malaysia but actively flies to different parts of the world for performance, collaborations and adjudications.
